Kris has many years of leadership experience teaching both young and old the ways of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Kris grew up in North County San Diego and was involved in martial arts and wrestling as a kid. Started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2005 in Encinitas under Nelson Monteiro and Marcelo Perera. Marcelo moved back to Brazil and passed the school onto Johny Faria. He received his black belt in 2015 from Johny Faria with Team Alliance. Kris competed in local, national, and international tournaments throughout his Jiu-Jitsu career. Some of his accomplishments were winning a silver medal at the IBJJF World Championships No Gi in purple belt, bronze in IBJJF World Championships Purple Belt, silver in IBJJF National Championships at Brown belt, and silver at IBJJF World Championships at Brown Belt. He has also won several gold medals including Brown Belt heavyweight at San Diego Sub Con, OTM California State Championship, OTM International Championship, Gracie Humaita Championship. His hobbies include surfing, mountain biking, weight training, traveling. Kris has been involved in the community and helping lead an international Christian organization called Christian Surfers for 10 years. They do everything from beach cleanups to helping run surf contests for youth. He enjoys giving back to his community in any way he can, and he believes Jiu Jitsu is the best way he can do that.
